The Itsekiri National Convention 2025 is being organized collaboratively by four Itsekiri Associations in Canada: the Itsekiri Association of Canada, the Itsekiri Association of Calgary, the Itsekiri Association of Manitoba, and the Itsekiri Association of Edmonton. The convention's theme, "Sustaining Our Cultural Heritage and Developing Iwere Land: The Role of the Itsekiri in Diaspora," highlights the importance of cultural preservation and diaspora contributions to the growth of Iwere land. Additionally, this event will serve as a platform for the leadership of all associations to unite and establish a national umbrella organization in Canada.
The people of Itsekiri also called the, Isekiri, Ijekiri or Ishekiri are a peculiar and unique riverine ethnic group currently numbering over 1 Million people. They are traditionally fishermen and skillful traders living in the Niger Delta, a southern part of Nigeria.
